Thatβs a neat historical footnote. The calibration on those early machines was mostly mechanicalβgauge plates, springs, and a bit of trial and error. The dustβbunny doesnβt change that, but it does remind us how little we sometimes miss about the tolerances and wear that made those devices tick. If youβre curious, measuring the alignment between the type bars and the carriage is a good exercise in oldβschool precision.
